My artist name is Elvy Jean. I am a Belgian musician, born in 1980 and father of three.

I started creating music—songs and instrumentals—in my mid-teens and never stopped. I taught myself guitar and piano simultaneously. In 2006, after producing my first album of songs (Belinda and the Universe), I was noticed by a renowned label from Liège: Jaune Orange. That led to many concerts, including opening for well-known artists such as Girls in Hawaii, Beirut, Yoav, Beach House, Mariee Sioux, and others. I also took part in events like Boutik Rock, Concours Circuit, and AB/Bota. One of the most enjoyable experiences was playing intimate living room concerts in private homes.

Despite this promising start in the professional world, I chose to prioritize my personal and family life, as I couldn’t manage both at once. As a result, my music remained intimate and confidential for quite some time.

At first, I went by simply “Elvy,” which comes from the pronunciation of my initials (L.V.). Over time, however, other artists adopted the same name, so the project temporarily became Songs for June.

Lately, the piano has taken a more central role in my work, while vocals have become less prominent. The name reverted to “Elvy,” now paired with my middle name—Jean—referring to my paternal grandfather.

Even though I’ve been distant from the stage and the cultural scene in general, I’ve continued to write songs and instrumental pieces at home, with modest means—filled with the creaking of a chair, birds singing outside the window, the sigh of the dog next to the piano, and other happy imperfections.

Over time, my recording equipment gradually improved, and some external collaborators helped elevate the overall quality of the recordings. One might say the sound evolved from lo-fi to mid-fi.

Today, while I still occasionally compose songs, my main focus is the piano. In 2025, I released two solo albums dedicated entirely to this instrument.

Alongside this creative work, in everyday life I’m Lionel, a music teacher around Namur, Beligum where I share my passion with others.
